Bruxelles backs the safety rules
of mammary implants in Spain.

The Spanish legislation of
mammary implants respects the
safety general criterion settled
by the European Union, as
expressed on a document based on
information from the national
authorities of “the fifteen”,
published by the European
Commission.
The document, which assures
“great progress” on the subject
on the group of member States,
was elaborated with submitted
information from all of the
Sanitary Ministries to the
commission according to the
following matters: information
to the patient, clear consent of
the patient, publicity,
register, and long term
monitoring of the patients.
About the first matter, the
European Commission is requiring
that all clinics or medical
institutions that will or are
providing this service give full
and complete information about
the procedures and the effects
of surgery, and give the patient
a period of time, long enough to
take the decision, considering
advantages and disadvantages.
In Spain, the current
legislation –protocol on mammary
implants of 1992 and 2002 Law-
obliges all surgeons to give all
the “necessary information”
about effects and consequences
to the patients and guarantee
that they have a “perfect
knowledge” and freely provide
their consent, explained as said
above on the document, that also
requires the declaration of
“previous consent”...

Plastic Surgeons Caution
Against Unknown Dangers
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. – The
allure of shedding unwanted
pockets of fat with a series of
simple injections, known as
mesotherapy, sounds too good to
be true - and it just might be.
According to an ASPS Device &
Technique Assessment (DATA)
Committee report published in
the April 15 issue of Plastic
and Reconstructive Surgery® (PRS),
the official medical journal of
the American Society of Plastic
Surgeons (ASPS), patients should
be wary of mesotherapy until the
safety and effectiveness of the
procedure are confirmed.
